{Post #81} Grandson's Quilt Top Finished

Got my grandson's quilt top finished this AM.  Then I used some of the scraps to piece a few 4-patch Kaleidoscope blocks (long enough for a strip) for the back.  The scraps were all wonky-shaped, so the blocks were made from all the 3" squares I could cut out.  There were not as many as I thought there would be.

{Post #80} Baby Quilt for Keith

Yesterday AM I started my grandson-yet-to-be-born's baby quilt.  The baby's name is Keith.  

I have always loved kaleidoscope/stack 'n whack quilts.  I just forgot how much.

I should have taken a picture of the original print, before I cut it up into bits.  Yesterday I went to get more for the borders because I did not have enough.  The print is soooo large that I had to waste a lot more of it to get the motifs I needed.  Fortunately, they did have the same animals in the same colors in a smaller print.  Crisis averted.

Here are my blocks so far.  The ones on the green cutting mat are pieced into half blocks.  The ones on the striped ironing board cover are just lying there...the motive and 2 corner trianges are sewn on, but the blocks are not pieced at all.  

Her nursery theme is tigers.

{Post #59} Baby Quilt Under Way

About 6 weeks ago I bought a set of vintage double pinwheel blocks on Bonnie Hunter's e-yard sale.  I know...I was supposed to be selling things.  And I have...and will again.


One of my friends at church loves (and I do mean loves) antique and vintage things.  She even buys new things and distresses them to make them look old.


I decided to use my newly-acquired blocks to make her a baby quilt.  She is expecting a girl on MY BIRTHDAY!!  That little one deserves a very nice quilt, right?


One problem was that the blocks were all different sizes.  I took one block apart and made it perfect, but that was not going to happen again.  I bit the bullet and just cut them all down to the same size, irregardless of points.  But I think it's going to be OK.


Here they are laid out with muslin sashing and '30's pink cornerstones:

I have webbed the first 3 rows together.  Once I lay it out, I am eager to get it sewn together so the pieces don't get messed up.  So, I am off to a good start with this one.


Here is a second baby quilt I'm making (for a boy due, ironically enough, right around my birthday as well).  It's from Bonnie's Rectangle Wrangle pattern.  It measures 37" square.  With a small border, that's close to my target of 40" square for a newborn's quilt.

Shirts.  I.  am.  hooked.

Judson's Baby Quilt

Here is the baby quilt, washed and dried.  Don't you love the way a quilt crinkles up and gets all quilty after it's washed and dried?  I do.  It's about 36" square, which is in my target size for a newborn baby quilt.  This was the row-ectomy from my Texas Braid quilt.

Just found out...my Susie and I are going to Bonnie Hunter's trunk show Monday night and her workshop on Tuesday.  It's about 2-1/2 hours from our house. 

Of all the things...it's a Pineapple Blossom workshop.  Now where have I heard of that pattern??  The workshop was completely booked when I checked into it a while back, but the hostess just emailed me that there were some cancellations.  Emily said she would like the same quilt, so I'll piece one for her.
